As robots become more common in our everyday lives, it’s essential to understand how humans and robots can work together smoothly. This area of study is called Human-Robot Interaction (HRI), and it explores how we can design robots that interact well with people.
In this talk, I’ll share some examples from my research on HRI, focusing on three key areas: how robots can move around in ways that respect social norms (socially aware navigation), what makes people trust robots (trust and homophily), and why people sometimes mistreat robots. We’ll look at real-world examples of these challenges and discuss exciting research opportunities in this field, which brings together ideas from artificial intelligence, psychology, and robotics.
